Rowlett, Texas derives its name from Rowlett Creek, which flows into Lake Ray Hubbard and is a major tributary of the east fork of the Trinity River.

Rowlett lies along 30 miles of shore on Lake Ray Hubbard. The city of Rowlett is partially in Far East Dallas County and a portion of west Rockwall County. With a population of 57,463 people, Rowlett is the 57th largest community in Texas.

History/Interesting Facts
In 2012, Rowlett was recognized by the Dallas Business Journal in their list of the “Largest North Texas Economic Development Agencies” based on the volume of real estate transactions occurring in 2011.

The $1.2 billion, 9.9 mile President George Bush Turn Pike extension (completed in 2011) connected SH 78 in Garland at Firewheel Town Center to IH-30 east of Bass Pro in Garland. The majority of the new turnpike traverses Rowlett and provides a tremendous economic engine for Rowlett’s development and growth.

For Rowlett residents’ entertainment, there is the Wet Zone family water park and the first class Waterview Golf Club. Waterview Golf Club boasts a championship par 72 course featuring lush landscape, 15 acres of lakes and 1,500 trees representing 18 different species.

Because Rowlett is located within two counties, the Dallas County portion of Rowlett is served by Garland Independent School District, while the Rockwall County portion is a part of the Rockwall Independent School District.

Back, Stephens, Dorsey, Giddens-Steadham, Herfurth, Keeley, Pearson, Rowlett, Cullins-Lakepoint and Liberty Grove Elementary Schools, Coyle and Schrade Middle Schools, and Rowlett High School are located within the city boundaries of Rowlett.

Garland ISD has a free choice program that allows for a student to attend any school within the district whereas Rockwall ISD residents are zoned to Cullins-Lake Pointe Elementary School, Williams Middle School and Rockwall High School.

For higher education, residents in Dallas County are zoned to the Dallas County Community College District. Residents in Rockwall County are zoned to Collin College.
