Located in the Bay Area of Greater Houston, Clear Lake City has grown from a small community to one of the area’s most desired places to live and work for Houston’s middle and upper-class. The University of Houston–Clear Lake is the area’s university and offers nearly 90 degree programs: 40 bachelors, 44 masters, and one doctoral.
For commuters with jobs in Houston, the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) operates the Bay Area Park and Ride. In addition, Harris County Transit operates services going through Clear Lake City.
In 1991, Clear Lake City purchased 111.46 acres of land, which is now known as the Sylvan Rodriguez Park, located on Clear Lake City Boulevard. Attractions within the park include a jogging trail, a sitting ring monument, a picnic pavilion, practice fields and lacrosse fields, and a rocket-themed playground.
Each year, Clear Lake hosts the Gulf Coast Film Festival. Established in 1999, the festival features independent films from local, regional and international artists.
In late September, visitors from near and far come to Clear Lake City for the Ballunar Festival. Held at the Johnson Space Center, the event features an array of colorful hot-air balloons in addition to dazzling sky diving performances. Similarly, the Wings Over Houston Air Fest exhibits air acrobatics by military and civilian pilots.
For lovers of music and art, the Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theatre, Clear Lake Symphony, and the Arts Alliance at Clear Lake offer a variety of exhibits and musical performances.
The city has several notable communities including Bay Forest, Bay Glen, Bay Knoll, Bay Oaks, Bay Pointe, Brook Forest, Brookwood, Clear Lake Forest, Camino South, Meadowgreen, Middlebrook, Northfork, Oakbrook, Oakbrook West, and Pinebrook.
