Sugar Landlords beware that the rental registration fee has been increased to $93.50

Houston Property Management

Sugar Land TX requires landlords to register their rental properties.  The registration requirement has been around since 2007.  Many landlords may not be aware of some of the basic terms of this program. The registration and payment can be handled by anyone, so our Houston property management team can help landlords handle the compliance.   It is important to note that the fee has been increased to $93.50 per year and late fees for late renewal is $31. For those landlords who rent without a license, the city of Sugar Land can fine you $500 per day for renting without a license.

Key terms to remember with the Sugar Land rental program:

  • Maintaining the landlord's property in compliance with all city codes relating to health, sanitation, and property maintenance
  • Remedying any violation of city codes found on the landlord's property
  • Not renting a unit to a registered sex offender if the unit is within 2500 feet of an area designated as a child area under Article XI, Chapter 3 of the Sugar Land Code of Ordinances
  • Landlords will need to submit an rental license application and pay the fee as soon as possible. Applications can be submitted online, by printing the application and submitting it in person at City Hall or by mail. Owners of unlicensed rental properties can be fined up to $500 a day for each day that the unit is rented without a license.
