What does Ashoka Lion Mean?

The Ashoka Lion is an ancient symbol of strength and knowledge.

The Ashoka Lion- a beautiful emblem symbolizing the powerful, calm protection above the murky water

In Ancient India, the emperor Ashoka had converted to Buddhism, and he used the imagery of a pillar that had a base in the shape of a lotus with a lion guarding on top. The lotus is a flower with roots that go down deep into the muddy parts of a lake or body of water. It rests calm and beautiful at the top of the water, while the building blocks remain hidden in the depths below. The lion is a symbol of royal lineage and the climb to reach your goals in life (such as knowledge). The lion is often used to represent leadership, guardianship, and strength. Our logo also utilizes a Chakra, often depicted as the “Wheels of Time”, which represents virtues we should all strive for such as love, service, self sacrifice, truthfulness, and other positive principles. We feel these reflect beautifully for our property management firm and what we do - where the day to day “nitty gritty” operations that Ashoka handles are the roots, and our clients and their properties are the lotus flower & the lion.

Why did your property management company choose the Ashoka Lion?

At 27 years old, Jay Raman began Ashoka Lion with a vision that the name and company should be a brand that would take a life and meaning on its own versus simply being a homage to a founder.  Therefore, he pulled the name as a way to tie to his past while also linking towards the future with a symbol that recognizes that time keeps moving, but it takes progressive leadership to navigate the changes. It would mean taking the firm from a bookkeeping firm to a full service rental property management firm in 2006 to entering the association management business in 2008 to developing a brokerage division in 2010.  The changes are something that we realize are constant and we strive as a firm to innovate and adapt our services for our clients. We want clients to understand that when they are retaining our firm that we strive to be a leader that moves forward with our processes, products, and we use those innovations to better serve our clients, whether they are rental property clients, homeowner associations, or owners seeking to buy or sell a home.
