With a population of nearly 150,000 people, Pasadena, Texas ranks as the 17th most populous city in the state of Texas as well as the second-largest city in Harris County.

Today, petroleum and gas, petroleum refining, petrochemical processing, maritime shipping, aerospace, healthcare and businesses related to NASA’s Johnson Space Center all contribute to Pasadena’s economic base. In addition to outstanding employment opportunities, over 35,000 families reside in the city, and the Pasadena Independent School, which is among the 30 largest school districts in the state.

History/Interesting Facts
Founded in 1893, the city derives its name from Pasadena, California, by Colonel John H. Burnett of Galveston, who was also involved in the establishment of what would later become neighboring Houston. The Hurricane of 1900 brought with it a surge in population for the city, as its damage obliterated Galveston and sent many seeking refuge in nearby Pasadena. A year later, the Texas oil boom brought refineries to the area and the city’s growth rate soared.

Pasadena has 20 elementary schools, four middle schools, seven intermediate schools and three high schools within its city limits. The University of Houston–Clear Lake, San Jacinto College and Texas Chiropractic College are also in Pasadena.

Notable Areas
Pasadena is home to over 40 parks, four youth centers and three community centers. It also has several major neighborhoods including Baywood Oaks, Baywood Shadows, Burke Meadows, Country Meadows, Deepwater, El Jardin del Mar and Golden Acres.

Several museums can be found in Pasadena including the Pasadena Historical Museum, the Bay Area Museum and Armand Bayou Nature Center. Each year, the city holds an annual Pasadena Strawberry Festival, to commemorate the crop, which found its way to Pasadena through a Red Cross donation of 1.5 million strawberry plants following floods brought on by the Hurricane of 1900.
