Spring - Grown from a Sleepy Railroad Town

Geographical/Demographic Information

Established in 1836, Spring has grown from a sleepy railroad town to one of the areas preferred destinations for family living, as the 1970’s ushered in the northern expansion of Houston’s suburbs. With a reported population of nearly 55,000 people and 14,068 families, the Spring Independent School District (SISD) offers several elementary schools, four middle schools and two high schools, although Harris County residents with Spring addresses may also attend schools within the Klein Independent School District. There are approximately 20 private schools throughout Spring, including The John Cooper School, whose graduates have 100 percent college matriculation and are accepted to top colleges and universities, both locally and abroad.

Spring, Texas has a variety of neighborhoods from small neighborhoods like Stone Forest to Master planned communities like WindRose and Gleannloch Farms to gated communities like Lakes of Cypress Forest to established communities like Spring Creek Forest.

During the warmer months, residents of Houston and its surrounding areas flock to Spring’s SplashTown water park, a local favorite for those looking to beat the heat. Premier attractions include a six lane water slide, giant wave pool and an interactive play area for children.

The Cypresswood Golf club provides an excellent opportunity for both novice and advanced golf enthusiasts to perfect their swing. Old Town Spring boasts over 150 shops, restaurants and art galleries and, as the name might suggest, features buildings that date back to the early 1900’s.

Not far from Spring is The Woodlands, a master-planned community with two movie theaters, over 150 restaurants, a publicly accessible waterway, and dancing waterfalls with music. The Woodlands Pavilion, however, may be its biggest cultural and entertainment draw, as the 19,500-seat amphitheater is home to an array of events and has been ranked as the second-most heavily used amphitheater in the world.

Notable personalities from Spring include Olympic gold medalist Laura Wilkinson, The Big Bang Theory actor Jim Parsons and Major League Baseball pitcher Josh Beckett. Beckett, born and raised in Spring, won the 2003 World Series with the Florida Marlins and the 2007 World Series with the Boston Red Sox.
