Cypress is an unincorporated residential and business area of Harris County, located just along the Northwest Freeway. Coming in at 50th in the top 100 highest-income urban areas in the United States, the city began taking shape in the 1980s and is now one of the Houston area’s largest suburban communities.
With a reported population of 122,803 people and 32,762 families, Cypress is a city ripe with history and family friendly activities.
The Berry Center, an $80 million multi-use complex, features a football stadium, basketball arena, conference center, auditorium, multimedia production, and catering facility. For golfing enthusiasts, the city has several golf courses, and plans are underway for the Cypress Creek Greenway, which will link major anchor parks along the entirety of Cypress Creek via a Greenbelt complete with Hike & Bike trails, horseback riding, and canoeing. The city also features a life-size replica of the Alamo, located at the Northwest Forest Conference Center.
The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District has over 20 elementary schools, 20 middle schools and 11 high schools, including Cy-Fair High School, which had more National Merit Finalists than any other high school in the CISD for the 2010-2011 school year.
Lone Star College serves the city. Established in 1973, Lone Star College System is the largest institution of higher education in the Houston area, and the fastest-growing community college system in Texas.
In 2013, Cypress Ranch High School student Danielle Bradbery won first place in the television singing competition series, The Voice.
