Subprime losses lead to drop in home ownership |

| 2.4 million Subprime mortgage holders between 1998 and 2006 will lose their homes to foreclosure. This will result in a net ownership loss of one million homes. The borrowers are not the only group to blame, but some of the factors are lax underwriting practices, dangerous loan products, and a disregard for affordability. Borrowers need to be careful when applying for subprime loans to make sure they are financial capable of paying their mortgage on time. Vacancy Rate Drop Predicted |
Mortgage Rates as April 2007 |
Vacancy rate is predicted to drop to 9.8% while the asking rent is supposed to increase to 3.8%. Some drivers that will increase the demand for rental properties are the growth in local population and job growth, which is expected to be twice the national rate. This could be indicating that the soft rental market is turning around for the aforementioned reasons above. Additionally, the potential Congressional investigations and the tightening up lending practices in the sub-prime market will turn people who were previously considering buying property back to the rental market.

Houston will be a wireless city by 2008. The city council approved the contract with Earthlink to build and maintain the wireless system. Houston's wi-fi project is expected to be the largest in the nation covering over 600 square miles. This is a major improvement to the infrastructure and will attract more people and business to the city.
